Unreleased Videos

  • ...Baby One More Time
  • Britney said that she was offered to make the video with her as a superhero fighting a huge robot.
  • Another idea for the video was for it to be like the Power Rangers. It was going to be directed by Joseph Khan (Stronger, Toxic, Womanizer). But Britney wanted the video to relate to her fans so she spoke up, "If you want me to reach four-year-olds, then OK, but if you want me to reach my age group...". The final concept is as we know it from the original video.
  • Born to Make You Happy
  • The original concept of the video was to portray Britney dreaming about her ex-lover by whom she was secretly pregnant, but Jive immediately rejected the idea after it leaked and it received negative reception.
  • When Your Eyes Say It
  • The music video was shot in January 2001 by directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. It was rejected last minute because Jive decided to have Don't Let Me Be The Last to Know instead. The concept of the video is unknown.
  • I Love Rock 'N' Roll
  • A scene of Britney licking oil from the ground in the video can be found online. However, it isn't included in the Greatest Hits album or in the original video.
  • Everytime
  • Britney's original concept was to die in an overflowing bathtub with pills and booze strewn around, and then reincarnating as a baby. However, that idea was rejected because she didn't want to promote suicide.
  • "According to the clip's treatment, Spears arrives at the supposedly secret but paparazzi-swarmed back alley of an exclusive hotel, boyfriend in tow. Though it's common for the singer to be mobbed by the press, this time, people go to extremes, exaggerating the chaos as her bodyguards try to protect her and fights break out. The camera cuts back and forth from the action to find Spears in an extreme close-up, performing directly to the camera as the story unfolds around her. She and her date are shuttled into the hotel, having been roughed up a bit, and exchange a look expressing that what was supposed to be a vacation is no fun for either of them. They end up in the high-rollers suite, but it doesn't help calm them down. Spears tries to put her angry boyfriend at ease, pouring two glasses of wine from the gift basket, but he lashes out, smashing the bottle at her feet. Spears then gets quiet and walks away, heading to the bathroom, where the camera angles start to add a bit of mystery. A hand lays down a glass of red wine, water trickles around the cracks of tile, the bathtub overflows, and on the ledge stands a bottle of pills, the cap removed. Spears' head slips under water, and only then does her boyfriend, who had been watching television, start to notice. As he tries to revive her, the camera tracks a new Britney, alive and unharmed, walking past him, out of the room and out of the hotel. The paparazzi, still swarming at the back entrance, don't seem to register this Britney, and she disappears into the night. Ambiguity is all that remains - is Britney alive? Dead? A ghost? Did she kill herself off before the tabloids could? Did she kill herself so that she could be reborn? The final shot - which shouldn't be revealed here so as not to spoil the surprise - doesn't answer any of these questions, but should give fans plenty to talk about."
  • There was also a version of the video released in selected countries, in which Britney is shown underwater in the bathtub, but she doesn't go out of the water like in the original video. It's extremely rare and hard to find.
  • Outrageous
  • This video was never finished or released due to Britney injuring her knee on set. However, there were a few scenes shot - one of Britney and Snoop Dog at a basketball court, Britney dancing in a black trench coat and in a wet street at night. These scenes were included in the Greatest Hits DVD.
  • Britney's manager, Larry Rudolph said that the video was going to be released with the scenes they had already shot but in the end they decided not to release it since Britney couldn't promote it.
  • Gimme More
  • Apparently, Britney had a very different concept for the video than what was released. She shot many scenes like her walking down a street in a funeral outfit, dancing on a pole and wearing a white shirt and white mini-skirt. All of the scenes featured Britney as a brunette, and there are pictures from the set. It is considered one of the most mysterious videos of her career. There are comments from people who worked on the original video, including dancer Slim K:
  • "Due to a confidentiality agreement, my professional views and respect from an artist to an artist - I'm not going to spill any beans here, can't tell details... sorry! During the shoot yesterday July 19th all day till the am hours, I have to admit that I myself couldn't get enough of it. I think it's going to be hot and get the Spears back on track. I was never a big Spears fan (I'm a bit old school in that department), but I followed her journey for quite sometime... actually since her debut. What can I say, if this song reaches the airwaves or the clubs hold on to your bottles and glasses. She seemed to enjoy the shoot (I admired her persistency and dedication for getting the scenes done over and over till she was pleased). The theme had lots of passion, party, great energy, dancing, sex, sex..sex... and sex... oh and fun! The project is not completed yet and is planned to continue shooting next week, I'm already asked and confirmed to be part of it... again... and looking forward to finish this."
  • "Britney's brand new music video, reportedly for the song, "Get Back," [rumored to be the first single at the time] which she officially shot yesterday in a 14-16 hour shoot in LA, was 'choreographed entirely by Britney herself,' according to reports, which also say she was involved in the entire concept, as early as the storyboard process, all the way through to casting and production design. The video is said to be about 'rebirth', with vintage elements, and is said to have been directed by Jake Safarty, making his directorial debut having been behind the scenes."
  • "According to a reported casting sheet, the video will feature "attractive, hip, fashionable, and enthusiastic people aged 21 to 30 acting as bar patron" and "the one-day shoot will be held between 12pm to 12am" in, what "Us Weekly" calls a 'disused LA warehouse'."
  • "Britney and her dancer friends were in downtown Los Angeles shooting a music video, which reportedly cost Britney $30,000 of her own money."
  • "A casting notice went out earlier in the week: Casting music video for major recording star! Please reply with a photo with your age, height and other specifics if you’d like to be an extra in a one day music video for an established major pop music star. We’re looking for attractive, hip, fashionable, and enthusiastic people ages 21 to 30 to act as bar patrons. The shoot hours will be 12 PM to 12 AM. Compensation is pro bono, however, food and drinks will be provided. This is a one day shoot with a fun and lively crew. A good time will be had by all! This is a great opportunity to be an extra in a big music video with a very well known artist. A confidentiality agreement must be signed if you are chosen."
  • ..."Britney Spears’ new music video “Get Back” [rumored to be the first single at the time] which was shot over a period of about 14-16 hours in a warehouse on 6th street in downtown Los Angeles last night. Our insider told us that the music video is unlike anything Britney has done before, pointing out that the video has a very eclectic feel to it with a lot of vintage elements. In one of the sets, there's a drawing of Elvis on the wall and a little bit further down is one of Britney. There is also a night club set." [It should also be noted that Slim K, who made an appearance in scenes that weren't released, is also an Elvis impersonator and the backdrop of Britney's 2007 MTV VMA Performance was inspired by an Elvis performance, and Britney used his song "Trouble" in the beginning of her performance]. “Not many people know how long this music video has been in pre-production. The entire concept behind the music video, which I cannot talk about was entirely Britney’s idea, and this is the first time that she has been involved in it as early as the story board process, all the way to the production design and the casting as well. The only thing I can say is that this video is about “rebirth”. She also did all the choreography for it. This is her baby and is excited for all her fans to see it when it airs. She has been working extremely hard even though many fail to give her credit for it.” “A couple of extras were giving the crew attitude on set, since they were asked to work pro-bono (for free), but apart from that and a few glitches, we were able to finish the video on time.”
  • The text is long, but it's worth reading it (especially for Britney fans)
  • Piece of Me
  • (Rumored): "For my part, I am one of the group of paparazzi who must photograph and disturb Britney. While passing on a red carpet, she walks with her dancers, poses, and suddenly begins to dance in front of us." Without doubt, the pop princess wanted to do a parody of his uncomfortable situation. "The paparazzi begin to move forward, to push her and at some point she takes out a grenade, which ends up being only a sphere of water. Her and her laughing dancers go into a building, where the video continues."
  • Break The Ice
  • Britney had planned a dance sequence on a chair for the music video for "Break The Ice" (rumored to be for "Hot As Ice" at the time), but the video was never shot due to Spears' personal problems at the time (which is why an animated video for the song was released).
  • "[Britney] revealed to us that she’s preparing to shoot a new video for her next single, Hot as Ice and that she wants it to be “something new” and fresh!" .... her "displeasure with how her last video came off could be one of the reasons she’s decided to take control and go back into the dance studio Sunday. So what can we expect for the next video? “I wanna do something new, something really cool,” Brit announced."
  • "After the [dance] class [she taught to kids] wrapped up at 7 p.m., Spears – who has rehearsed at Millennium three times since Friday – spent another hour and a half working on a dance routine for her single "Hot as Ice." "She seems very focused about getting back into her old life, she's focusing her energy on creating and dancing."
  • "Britney Spears headed to the Millennium Dance Complex in North Hollywood on Sunday night to work on a new routine, owner Robert Baker tells PEOPLE. "She is working on the choreography for her song 'Hot as Ice,'" Baker said, "She rehearsed an amazing routine with a chair."
  • "For the second night in a row, Britney Spears is hard at work on getting her career back on track. Around 3:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, the superstar arrived at North Hollywood's Millennium Dance Studios — her favorite place to rehearse her dance moves. And according to some who have seen her these last couple days, things appear to be looking up for the singer. "Her focus and clarity are noticeable," says one fortunate witness who had the chance to look on as Brit worked on her routine for her upcoming video. "Almost like the old Britney we've known and loved." ... "Days before, Brit had begun to work on this current routine — for her single "Hot as Ice" — which will feature one of the singer's famous chair numbers, not unlike the one in the video for her hit "Stronger."
  • A video for the "Break The Ice" remix with rapper Fabolous (which is an official remix and can be found online) was also possibly planned [This could possibly be the 'continued' video that the end of the "Break The Ice" video mentioned (it said "to be continued" at the end), but this is unconfirmed]. Fabolous stated:
  • "Although Fabolous only worked on one of Britney's songs from Blackout, he says he'd be open to working with the formerly troubled singer again. "It was a great joint," he says of "Break the Ice." "We’ll see what’s possible in the future if it happens again," he adds. "We weren't able to do a video because of what was going on with her at the time but I'd love to do it again."
  • When I Grow Up (cameo)
  • Britney was originally set to make a cameo in Pussycat Dolls' When I Grow Up. She was supposed to be in a car and wave at the girls, but the scene was cut. Nicole Sherzinger later revealed that it wasn't in the video, because they shot it at different times and places and it didn't look right.
  • Radar
  • The video was originally set to be shot in June 2008, but it was cancelled, because Jive and Britney didn't want to release more singles from Blackout and she was already recording a new album at the time.
  • "Britney Spears is heading across the pond. Larry Rudolph, who has managed the pop star, confirmed Spears will travel to England to shoot the latest video from her album “Blackout,” for the single, “Radar.” “The theme is her and her girlfriends are going to be looking all around London trying to find a boy who she met in a club,” Rudolph told the New York Post’s PopWrap. “Every time they think they have him, it’s someone else.” Spears will also head behind the camera for the clip, co-directing the video, Rudolph confirmed. “She will be behind the camera as much as possible; she wants to make sure it’s exactly right,” he said. The pop singer will head to England next week for the shoot."
  • If U Seek Amy
  • Sources tell StarzLife that the concept of the video is for Britney to make her way though an exotic party while ’seeking’ a woman named Amy, with many hot and sexy encounters along the way. In an unusual twist, the characters in this video supposedly go from nearly naked to fully dressed, as opposed to the typical strip down with progression format. That doesn’t sound very sexy, but the party is supposed to get sexier even as the guests get dressed, and by the end, Britney has gone from wearing a super sexy pair of black leather underwear and dancing around provocatively with “all of the boys and all of the girls”, to putting on a new face and looking like a primp and proper conservative upper class housewife. As the video concludes, Britney grabs an apple pie from the kitchen, and is joined by the perfect American family at the front door as they approach a group that awaits on the other side of the picket fence, including paparazzi, autograph seekers, and the media. Apparently it’s going to end with the camera zooming in on Britney’s beautiful smile as she winks to the camera, as if she’s putting on a front for the media and public camped outside her house. Sources who were on the set tell StarzLife the idea for the final scene was the something of The Brady Bunch meets Edward Scissorhands."
  • Work Bitch (Director's cut)
  • It was revealed by Britney that there is a director's cut to this video. She said in an interview that “We showed way more skin and did way more stuff for the video than what is actually there. Like, I cut out half the video because I am a mother and because, you know, I have children, and it’s just hard to play sexy mom while you’re being a pop star as well.”
  • Male model Richie Nuzzolese also confirmed that many scenes were cut to make the video PG. “I had these two girls around me. I was pulling one girl’s hair and going up her leg. Another one was pulling my hair from the back.” He was also “aggressively groping,” and staring seductively into a girl’s eyes and their lips almost connected. It was like an orgy without the sex.
  • Perfume (Director's cut)
  • On December 5, 2013, the director of the video, Joseph Kahn (Stronger, Toxic, Womanizer) tweeted that the released version of the video was completely different than the original edit.
  • On December 10 he tweeted: "Britney's performance is unbelievable. A true artist in it. Game changer."
  • After the video release, Kahn tweeted that his cut was very different, was a minute longer and had a shocking ending, and called it "Breaking Badney".
  • In an interview he mentioned it again, stating: "It sucks, especially since my director's cut is an entirely different video. The released edit is missing half of the story and all of the editorial structure. I guess people still like the video because of the gritty look which feels different, and the twist of the second girl in the second act. A narrative in two identical parts is still a solid idea even in compromised form. But it's such a faint reflection of the real narrative with broken execution and far less ambition. If they liked the weak version, I'd bet they'd love the strong one. No one knows what they're missing, and they're missing a lot."
  • On July 22, 2014, the original concept for the video leaked. It begins with Spears meeting a guy with whom she falls instantly in love. It is made clear to the viewers that she is an assassin as she kills a group of people in a car. She is given her next assignment who turns out to be the guy she fell in love with. They go to meet in their favorite spot, but Spears is not there. She is across the street with a rifle with her target set on him. She looks through the scope and sees the man holding a ring he made for her. Spears aborts the mission and leaves town because she knows she will be killed for failing her assignment. Britney is found hiding out in a hotel by other assassins that beat and tie her to a chair. Time passes as the man dates a new girl, gets married, and has a baby. He looks out a window thinking about Spears. Then, she is seen on the floor of her hotel room, barely alive, as her body slowly turns to ash. The last shot of Spears is the hotel room is her smiling as their eyes seem to meet. Her body then disintegrates. The final scene of the video depicts Spears and the man kissing in the sunset. The authenticity of this concept for the video was confirmed by Kahn on Twitter except for the concept's ending, which he decided to change for the actual filming.
